Hi, I’m Courtnay Gross, BSDH
ASSOCIATE MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPIST AT BREATHE WELL ANN ARBOR
My journey into myofunctional therapy started with my own story. Once I began learning about how improper orofacial function was affecting me, I started seeing it everywhere—in my kids, in friends, in everyday life. What started as something I was doing just for myself quickly turned into a passion to help others. I’ve always loved learning and making connections, especially when it comes to how our bodies work. Did you know your tongue is connected to your toes? It’s true—and that’s just one example of how everything in the body is connected.
I’m originally from a small town in Michigan’s thumb, and I always knew I wanted to go to the University of Michigan. I wasn’t sure what I’d study at first, but after one semester I applied to the dental hygiene program at the dental school. It felt like home—after all, I had worked in my dad’s dental office all throughout high school. After graduating, my husband and I moved to California where I practiced for a few years before we returned to Michigan to start our family.
After taking time away from work to raise my kids, I’m so excited to be back and using my degree in a more meaningful way. Myofunctional therapy has allowed me to combine my clinical background with a whole-body, systems-based approach to health. I’m passionate about changing the way we think about orofacial development and bringing awareness to a more well-rounded understanding of how everything is connected.
I’m especially grateful for the excellent education and training I’ve received from Airway Circle. One of the things I appreciate most about working at Breathe Well Ann Arbor is that we are always learning and growing together. Our team stays curious, shares ideas, and continues to evolve so we can give the best care possible to the families we support.
My approach is all about seeing the whole person. I want to understand your story, your goals, and what might be getting in the way. Once we have a plan in place, I’ll guide you or your child through exercise-based muscular re-education to support better oral function, breathing, and development. We may even have some fun along the way.
A few fun facts about me: I have two amazing kids, a dog, a cat, and a love for antiques. I make coats out of old quilts, I’m a sucker for a good thrift find—and I don’t like cake (I know… it surprises people every time!).
